o Expose enough of the abdomen to allow a thorough examination

Ensure mother is comfortable in a semi-recumbent position, with an empty bladder·

Ensure abdomen is soft and non-contracting
|
O Use a non elastic tape measure checking that the tape begins at zero
|
|
Procedure:
o Palpate with both hands to identify the highest point of the fundus o Measure from the highest point of the fundus to the top of the symphysis pubis o Measure along the longitudinal axis; do not correct to midline |
o Record and plot metric measurement onto the customised growth chart
