Connecticut

Delaware

Massachusetts Bay
Founded by William Bradford and John Winthrop to escape religious persecution in England.
Rhode Island
Roger Williams and Anne Hutchinson (dissenters) established a colony for religious freedom.
New Hampshire

Henry Hudson landed hear during his explorations and claimed it for the Dutch. Duke of York from England captured it from the Dutch.
New Jersey
Build colony on land captured from the Dutch.
Pennsylvania
Founded by William Penn as a Quaker colony.
Virginia
Founded by John Smith. Jamestown was the first permanent English settlement. The colony was established because England wanted to find gold.
Maryland
Established by Lord Baltimore for Catholics.
