How did geography affect trade in West Africa?
It was difficult to trade with people on the other side of the Sahara because it was hard to cross. It became easier when camels started to be used to carry goods to trade. Rivers were used to transport goods to trade. The rivers were like highways, but canoes were used.
How did early societies develop in West Africa?
Extended families worked together to get food. Then they had extra to trade, so trade centers in towns grew, and towns became cities as more people came to work.
What was the process the Nok used to smelt to make iron tools?
Blacksmiths fired furnaces with charcoal. Hot pieces of iron were then heated and hammered into shapes for tools like axes, hoes, and spears.
How did the ability to make iron affect food production and the types of jobs the villagers did in West Africa?
With tools, more food could be produced, so more people could move to that area and have food. The people didn't have to farm, but could work at other trades, like being blacksmiths, weaving, and pottery making.
