In what ways did China's geography keep it isolated fro the rest of the ancient world?
It was protected by vast deserts, and the Himalayas.
Why did the Shang rely on strong armies to maintain their rule? What invention made the Shang armies especially powerful?
They relied on strong armies because they were almost always at war. The armies were especially powerful because they learned how to make their weapons from bronze.
How was the Shang social pyramid organized?

How did the Zhou dynasty justify their rule?
The claimed they had been given the right to rule China by the gods. (The mandate of heaven)
What is feudalism?
The king gave large pieces of land to lords. In exchange, they sent soldiers if the king was attacked. The lords gave the peasants of their land protection, but in return they gave a portion of their crop to their lord.
Why did the "Hundred Schools of Thought" develop under the Zhou?
They wanted to find the best way to govern China with so much inability considering the warring states period, so the leaders asked advisors for help. So many ideas were given that the Chinese called them the "Hundred Schools of Thought". The 3 most major are Confucianism, Daoism(Also spelled Taoism), and Legalism.
What were the 3 main philosophies that emerged during this period?

Who was the first Emperor of the Qin empire and how did he come to power?
Prince Zheng(later taking on the name Qin Shihuangdi) was the first ruler of the Qin dynasty and he who built the first great wall. The Qin came to power by taking over the state of Zhou.
What brought conflict between the confucian scholars and the Emperor? How was it solved.
The Emperor thought that Confucianism was absurd, and wanted to change it. The scholars were against it. He burned their books and killed the scholars.
What were some of Qin Shihuangdi's accomplishments? What were some problems with his rule? *Let's just face it. He was a great big turd*
His greatest accomplishment was that he built the first great wall *The one we see today was rebuilt by later rulers* His problems were that he was very harsh and people secretly detested him.
