Water transpires out. Leaf has a higher water potential than the air so the stomata open. Water potential gradient reduces. The water lost is not replaced. The stomata close.

Similar species have similar calls. The greater the similarity in calls the closer the relationship between species.

DNA bases held together by hydrogen bonds. Hydrogen bonds are broken by increasing the temperature. The higher the temperature at which they separate, the higher the percentage of DNA hybridization. This is due to more hydrogen bonds being present due to more complementary base pairs.

Explain how a high number of plant diversity results in high animal diversity?
|
High plant diversity means that there is a greater variety of food. Also there are more habitats.

Why is it more beneficial to calculate the index of diversity rather than to just count number of species?
|
Index of diversity measures the number of species and the number of individual within a specie. This is beneficial as some species may only be present in small numbers.

How are small eggs in water likely to be affected by pesticides being sprayed?
|
The eggs have a large surface area to volume ratio. So this means that there is larger surface area over which the pesticide water can move in by osmosis. The eggs have a thin permeable outer layer so there is a small diffusion pathway.

In a investigation why might the dose be measured in kg/week?
|
Because the volunteers had different masses. Also the investigation takes place over different amount of weeks for each volunteer. This allows comparisons to be made.

|
Large sample size and random sampling to remove bias.
