German philosopher who influenced the existentialists. He wrote that through willpower and courage, some humans could become supermen.
What did the brutality of WW I cause philosophers and writers to think about?
They questioned ideas about reason and progress. They were worried about the future.
Who were T.S. Eliot and William Butler Yeats?
T.S. Eliot was an American poet living in England. William Butler Yeats was an Irish poet.
What happened in art after WW I?
Expressionism: Paul Klee and Wassily Kandinsky. Cubism: Picasso and Georges Braque. Surrealism: Salvidor Dali.
Surrealism
An artistic movement that focuses on the thinking of the unconscious mind. Salvidor Dali was a surrealist.
