What is the study of Parasitology
The study of parasitology is based on parasites and their development within host
Explain the term symbionts
This a relationship between two species where one either lives on or within the body of another. It is where organisms live in close association.
Symbiosis?
Living together.
Explain the term phoresis?
This iss where two organisms merely travel together and are not biochemically or physically dependent on the other. One organism the phorant which is the smaller organism, is mechanicaly carried by the larger organism. eg. bacteria on the legs of flies.
Who started taxonomy?
LINNAEUS
What is mutualism?
The is a relationship between two organisms where both benefit. It is obligatory, because one mutual cannot survive without the other. eg Termite and intestinal protazoan. Termite cannot digest cellulose, so the Flagellates digest wood eaten by the termites.
WHat are cleaning symbiosis
Cleaning symbiosis is a mutualistic relationship between crustaceans and small fish. The cleaners remove debris and ecto parasites and other injured tissue. This may be obligatory because when the cleaners are removed all other fish leave as well.
Is it true that commensualism, also name eating at the same table, where one organism benifits, and the other neither benifits nor is harmed . eating on food not wanted by the host? if so, give an example
Yes its true. One example is Pilot and remora fish, where the remora fish grabs scraps of food and gets free rides, as it has long slender adhesive fin.
How many type of commensuals are there? please state and name.
There are two types of commensuals 1.Facultative 2. Obligate.
Does facultative commensuals have to partner to survive? give an example
No. Stalked ciliates
Does obligate comensuals have to parnet to survive? give an example
Yes. Epistylis spp.
Give one example of a human commensual?
Entamoeba Gingivitis- This commensual live in the mouth of humans where it feeds on bacteria but never harms tissues.
