Amniotic Sac
A thick, transparent sac that holds the fetus suspended in the amniotic fluid
Birth Canal
The vagina and the lower part of the uterus
Bloody Show
The bloody mucus plug that is discharged from the vagina when labor begins
Cervix
The small opening at the lower end of the uterus through which the baby passes
Crowning
The stage of birth when the presenting part of the baby is visible at the vaginal orifice
Labor
The process or period of childbirth; especially, the muscular contraction of the uterus designed to expel the fetus from the mother
Miscarriage
Delivery of the fetus before it is mature enough to survive outside the womb (about 20 weeks), from either natural (spontaneous abortion) or induced causes
Placenta
The vascular organ attached to the uterine wall that supplies oxygen and nutrients to the fetus; also called afterbirth

The flexible structure that connects the fetus to the placenta
