Front Back
Three people that created the cell theory and the one who completed it.
Schleiden, Schwann, and Virchow. Complete by Virchow.
Three things that the Cell theory consist of
1. All living things are composed of cells. 2. Cells are the basic unit pf structure and functions in living things 3. New cells are produced from existing cells.
The person who propsed the Endosymbiotic Theory
Lynn Marquills
Endosymbiotic Theory
Eukaryotes evoled from prokaryotes
Endosymbiosis
Process in which cells are engulfed by other cells, but not digested.
Prokaryotic Cells
Cell Wall, no nucleus, DNA in cytoplasm, no membrane-bound organelles, ribosomes, asexual reproduction. Less complex. Unicellular Organisms
Eukaryotic Cells
Nucleus, DNA in nucleus, organelles that are surrounded by a membrane, cell membrane, cytoplasm. More complex. Unicellular and Multicellular Organisms.
Viruses
No cytoplasm, no ribosomes, no other cellular components. Cannot move or grow, Reproduce. To major coats = a protein coat and hereditary material. Extremely tiny only visible with a electron microscope. can cause disease.
Nucleus
Control center. In middle of cell. Contains DNA. Double-membrane called the nuclear envelope. Nuclear envelope has pores. sends instructions to RNA and RNA directs protein synthesis on ribosomes in the cytoplasm.
Nucleolus
Makes ribosomes. Inside nucleus. disappears during cell division.
Endoplasmic Recticulum
Transport system within a cell. Membranous tubules and sacs. Divides cell into compartments. Intercellular highway. Connects the nucleus with the cell membrane.
RER
Ribosomes on surface for making proteins in the cytoplasm. Transports newly assembled proteins to the Golgi.
SER
Lacks ribosomes. helps break down poisons, wastes, and other toxic chemicals. Liver contains a lot. Process carbohydrates and lipids.
Ribosomes
Sites of protein synthesis, not surrounded by a membrane, most numerous organelle, free in cytoplasm or attached to ER. Give RER rough appearance. Manufactured by the Nucleolus.
Golgi Appartatus
Delivery System. Flattened stacks of membranes. functions in collection, packaging, and distribution of molecules made in the cell and used elsewhere. Front faces ER. Back faces cell membrane. New proteins enter to be processed and exit the cell through the cell membrane. Separates proteins according to destinations, modifies proteins(adds sugar and makes glycoproteins), packages materials into vesicles which are exported out of the cell.
