A form of supervised learning used in feed forward networks. The error is propogated from the output nodes to the inner nodes. Algorithm: Gradient Descent = Move in direction where error (E) is minimized with respect to the weight (w).
How does Hebbian Learning result in the formation of cell-assemblies?
Hebbian Learning = Neurons that fire together wire together. Unsupervised Learning. Repeated stimulation of specific receptors leads slowly to the formation of cell-assemblies. Hebb: “When an axon of cell A is near enough to excite a cell B and repeatedly or persistently takes part in firing it, some growth process or metabolic change takes place in one or both cells such that A’s efficiency, as on of the cells firing B, is increased. If both source and target neurons are active at the same time, weight increased. Otherwise, weight decreased.
