Western objections to cannabis
1. links to witches, "assasins"/ islam 2. god above vs. nature (spirituality from a plant) 3. focus on futer (capitalism also) vs. present
THC CBD
Delta 1-3, 4-trans-tetrahydrocannabinol (most active cannabinoid=sedative) -cannabidiol=alertness -8 cannaboids- mins of cannabiods will vary (genetics/agriculture)
Endogenous cannibinoids
(AG2) natural compounds. THC is an anandamide agonist. -"relax, eat, sleap, forget and protect" -vital for childbirth!
Anandamide natural anandamide
-wipes out emotional (memory) of pain (long term) -to protect neurons around the brain against toxic objects.
Symptoms of marj. use
Increased appetite; dry mouth; hypothermia; lowered blood sugar? -focus on present, momory impairment -increased heart rate, prior to tolerance-anxiety esp. at 1st use. -slowed motor responses- cautious driver, slow reactions (accidents 2x more likely w/ pot, 6x for alcohol) -impulsive, sensaiton seeking males most likely. -has lil or no impact on complex task skills.
Marj and motivation
-decreases speed of reflexes -lowers motivation for complex tasks, violence   -lil impact on repetitive tasks -sedation originates in limbic system which controls motivation (flattened affect?) -correlates with early use of gateway drugs, social-psychologiccal dysfunction
Prodromal symptem
Early symptom that do not rise to level of symptems.  more like self medication with use of marj. -An early symptom indicating the onset of an attack or a disease.
Cronic, heavy use, especially in females, leads to:
-lower perfomance on thinking taks, complex attention, verbal memory, planning. psychomotor speed for at least 1 month after last use. -protective effectsof estrogen for memory lost by teen female users. -any use changes hippocampal cem. to allow more euphoria in adulthood -abnormalities in areas that link mem., attention, decision-making, language and executive functioning (heavy use= 2 to 5 times a day) -chronic use is every day
Potency
-4% THC in 1983 and 9.6% in 2007 -"commercial" is 5-15% -sinsemilla- 7-24% -"hydro"- grown in liquid chemicals, not soil-30-35% -hashish- from resin from female flowers-5-20% -hash oil- distilled from hash, 15-70% -50% of THC absorbed if smoked -5-10% if taken orally
Crime and cultivation
- about 70% of us pot is grown in us. -#1 cash crop in us due to criminal tarriff(raise in drug price due to criminal risk) -ubiquitious(everywhere at the same time)  in the onderworld   -criminal entry point   -used by 75% of current illicit drug users   -55% of these it is the only one used   -accounts for 45% of drug arrests   (not in prison but ruins record) -negative correlation with emotionally- based violence(most violence is about emotion not money, less violence when stoned)
Positive health effects of pot
-balances biochemistry of bran and nervous, immune and reproductive systems -limited immuno suppression, anti oxidant -kills many types of cancer cells -if you smoke pot and cigs you will most likely get cardio obstructive pulminary disease when older because the combination is lethal for the lungs
Negative health effects of pot
-linked to lung, head and neck cancers -respiratory problems, COPD -lung damage; 1 joint=3-5 cigs -method of smoking   -clean out lungs cuz coughing up shit?   -counteracted by periods without use? -ability to fight infection goes down but immunity to inflamitory disease goes up
Rebound effects
-gov labels these as "withdrawal effects" -in worst cases they have been coparable to coffee withdrawal. -insomnia -anxiety -irritability -most have none.
Hemp vs pot
-variants of the same plant (white rose vs red rose) -THC has more buds and leaves -hemp maximizes stem material and seeds -hemp is environmentally friendly   -oil used for nutrition, industry -pot - you want a plant that has buds and hem wants fibers and seeds. -hemp requires no fertilization
Affirmative defense
Simply allows you to bring up medical motive for doing a drug in the trial.  when you are arrested you can talk about why you did it.
