1.contain nucleic acids, proteins, carbohydrates, lipids 2.composed of cells 3.grow and reproduce 4.use energy and raw materials 5.respond to their environment 6.maintain homeostasis 7.evolve and have adaptive traits
Name two characteristics that classify humans as mammals:
Hair, mammary glands
Name two characteristics that classify humans as primates:
Large brain, color vision, single offsrping, fingernails...
Distinguish between population: Biosphere:
Community:
Ecosystem:
community: all species in an ecosystem that can interact ecosystem: a community and its physical environment biosphere: part of earth that supports life
  What is a hypothesis?
explanation for observation
What is a theory?
well supported and wide ranging explanation of some aspect of the physical universe
Define controlled experiment?
two groups, control group and experimental group, treated in same way… except for one variable
Inductive reasoning
facts accumulated through observation until evidence allows some logical general statement can be made
Deductive reasoning:
begins with general statement that leads logically to one or more deductions/conclusions
Describe epidemiological study
researchers look at patterns that occur within large populations (ex. Investigate effects of air pollution on asthma)

atoms that have same number of protons but differ in number of neutrons
How is radiations used to diagnose/ cure illness?
x-ray, radicoactive iodine, small amounts help generate images of internal body parts, kills cancer cells (divide more rapidly, higher rates of metabolism)
Covalent Bond:
forms when 2 or more atoms SHARE electrons in their outer shell                                                               ex: methane (CH4)
Ionic Bond:
results from the mutual attraction of oppositely charged ions                                                                      ex.: Sodium Chloride NaCl
