When does pressure ulcers occur
Pressure ulcers occur when there is sufficiant pressure on the skin to cause the blood vessels in an area to collapse.
The flow of blood and fluid to the cell is impaired, resulting in ischemia to the cells.If the pressure continues for longer then 2 hours, cell necrosis may occur.
The tissue layers of skin slide onto each other resulting in kinking or stretching of subcutaneous blood vessels; this resulting an interruption of blood flow on the skin.
