History of a person's life written by another person
FABLE
A story meant to teach a useful lesson. It often has animals that speak and act like humans.
FAIRY TALE
A story featuring characters, such as, fairies, goblins, elves, trolls, giants, etc. (Gingerbread Man, Rumplestiltskin)
FOLK TALE
A legend or story that is passed along orally from generation to generation.
FANTASY
A story where the characters solve their problems by using magical strategies, but act in realistic ways.
HISTORICAL FICTION
Stories set in the past with a definite period/time in history. Some aspects of the story are made up.
INFORMATION ARTICLEORINFORMATION REPORT
Organized facts and details designed to give the reader information/explanation about a specific subject or topic.
LEGEND
A story handed down from history based on past events. The story is exaggerated over time.
MYSTERY
Characters in the story are involved in a basic puzzle/problem. Clues are used to solve the puzzle.
MYTH
A traditional tale involving gods/goddesses or other supernatural beings. Explains things that happen in nature.
POETRY
Plays on rhymes and rhythms of words. Set up in lines or stanzas. Contains vivid imagery.
REALISTIC FICTION
Characters and story are made up, but the conflict/resolution (denouement) could really happen.
SCIENCE FICTION
Stories that usually take place in the future. The problems are solved using scientific data or technology.
TALL TALE
A humorously exaggerated story about impossible events. (Paul Bunyun)
