Front Back
Visible Line
A thick, continuous line representing all of the edges and surfaces that are visible in view. should be twice as thick as the thin lines within the view.
Hidden Lines
A line that features a thin, short dashes spaed closely together. dashed are 1/8" long and spaced 1/32" apart.
Center Line
designate centers of holes and arcs, symmetry, and paths of motion. Thin broken line, alternating long and short dashes.
Symmetry Lines
Used to show that an object is symmetrical about a center line. Thick, short contiuous line.
Section Lines
Used to represent the surfaces of objects that have been "cut" to show interior detail. Thin continuous lines, most drawn at 45 degree angles.
Cutting Plane Line
Indicate where the cut in a part is to be made. Thick dashed lines that terminate with arrowheads. Lieeters may be used to inentify the section.
Extension Lines
Extend the edges of objects out and away fim the view. Thin continuous line begin at .0625 extending .125 beyond deminsion line
Dimension Lines
Indicate the extent and direction of part dimensions. Thin continuous line terminated by arrowheads. Broken in the middle for the dimension value.
Leaders
Used to associate a note with a specifc feature or area of a drawing. Thin continuous line that terminates with an arrowhead.
Viewing Plane Line
Used to establish viewing direction. identical in appearance to a cutting plane line.
Break Lines
Used to "Break out" or "break off" a portion of a view. two types include: short break (thick, drawn freehand), and long break (thin and continuous).
Phantom Lines
Used to indicate, alternate positions of moving parts, adjacent positions of related parts, and repeated detail. long dashes alternating with pairs of short dashes. similar to cutting plane line but the line weight is thin.
Stich Lines
Represent the path of a stitching or sewing process.
Chain Lines
Indicates an area on a drawing where something special applies. similar to a center line but thick instaed of thin.
Text Specifications
should be uppercase, 1/8" (3mm) in height. created as single stroke gothic lettering.
