Limited contacts and helped India develop distinct culture.
What 2 things did the deep passages in Hindu Kush do for India?
They were gateways to migrating and invading people for thousands of years.
What are the three regions of India?
Northern Plain, Deccan, and Coastal plains
Describe the Northern plains
-they lie south of the mountains, they are watered by rivers (Indus, Ganges, Brahmaputra), they have stable agriculture.
What are three important rivers in India?
Indus, Ganges, Brahmaputra
What are the rivers called in the Indian language and in English?
"lok-mata" and in English, mother of the people. The rivers are sacred.
Describe the Deccan
It is a triangular plateau, very arid, unproductive and sparsely populated.
Describe the Coastal Plains
They are separated from the Deccan by low mountains, (Eastern and Western Ghats), rivers and heavy rainfall provide water for farming and fishing in the seas and trade on the highways.
