-Increases renal reabsorption of sodium in distal tubule, while increasing K+ excretion. Causes a net increase of particles in plasma, which leads to higher blood pressure.

-During stress it increases blood levels of carbohydrates (glucose), proteins, and fats. Also stimulates gluconeogenesis while decreasing inflammation.

-Increases basal metabolic rate. regulated by TSH, it increases gene transcription in nearly all cells of body.
-It is lipid soluble, carried by plasma protein carriers; so it acts like a steroid, but it isn't one. Thyroxine is a peptide hormone, but it's hydrophobic enough to enter cells. It binds to a receptor in the nucleus.
