What is non-contingent self-esteem? What is contingent self esteem? Which one is more likely to produce high self esteem?
Non-contingent self esteem- based on nothing
Contingent self-esteem- based on more than one source. Most effectve is to have self-esteem that is non-contingent. You are worthy because you are a unique individual with your own special potentials. It is stable and securely rooted in a solid sense of self. Sense of self worth is never at risk in the process of success or failure.
What are the behaviors which are typical of individuals with high self-esteem vs. those with low self-esteem?
High self esteem- believe they are worthwhile and valuable, see demanding goals as a challenge, recognize the strengths and achievements of self and others, Low self esteem- Believe that worth is based on opinions of others, are highly critical of self, inability to accept constructive criticism
What is the pathological critic?

Authoritarian- Restrictive, punitive
