Front Back
SENESCENSE
Normal process of changes in the body over time
GOOD GENES
Scientists have been able to double life span of fruit flies by selective breeding
CELLULAR AGING THEORY
Cells divide 80-90 times then stop. Older cells divide less Continue to live, but do NOT function properly causing:
-slower wound healing -osteoporosis -aging skin *so far the best explanation of cause and process of aging.
CROSS LINKAGE THEORY
Molecules in cells bind together which causes the normal cell function to slow. Collagen--connective tissue in most body systems changes with age. Causes loss of elasticity in -blood vessels -muscle tissue -skin -slower wound healing -wrinkles -lens of eye -increased size of nose and ears
AUTO IMMUNE THEORY
Immune system becomes defective -attacks not only basteria and viruses, but begins producing antibodies against itself. -does not explain why it happens or why it does not happen to all older adults.
WEAR AND TEAR THEORY
-organs and system wear out over time. Cells wear out and cannot repair damaged components. -ares typically effected are muscle, heart and nervous systems. -may wear out faster if impacted by external stressors: fall, push, car accidents
CALORIC INTAKE THEORY
-decrease calorie intake by 40% -requires meticulour nutrition -low calorie diets slow lower your body temp. and slow your metabo. this reduces number of free radicals created which may slow aging. -rats lived 30% longer(currently testing primates)
FREE RADICAL THEORY
Highly reactive chemical compounds that have an unpaired electron -causes cross linkage -reactions continue until free radicals pair with each other or mett and antioxidant(good)
Good job (:
