Define the term Tie-Down Note (TDN).
Relate to:- Caution during prep, loading & unloading -, Design Authority dispensations, an obscure DG hazard - Load items subject to TDN are otherwise loaded & restrained in accordance with general principles
Define the term White Tie-Down Scheme.
Sheet containing - all info req to prep, load & unload a 'single item' of load. Usually a restraint diagram included. Should be followed whenerver poss. If Deviation nec. - must conform to deviation criteria
When will a Tie-Down Note (TDN) be issued?
Where items are found to conform mainly to 'general cargo' parameters but specific points (possibly mandatory) need to be highlighted, a TDN will be issued.
Define the term Pink Tie-Down scheme.
Pink TDS are similar in format to white but involve items with specific airportability limitations, or which exceed normal loading criteria.
Pink Tie-Down scheme - Where will the specific reason(s) for a Pink TDS be given?
They will be given immediately under the title on the reverse of the scheme.
Are Pink Tie-Down schemes mandatory?
A pink TDS is mandatory only in respect of the specific reasons given - In all other respects pink TDS are to be considered as the preffered method.
White TDS - If the restraint is straightforward what will apply?
Current general principles of restraint.
Deviation Criteria - What is to be done whenever an item of load is positioned beyond the extreme forward, aft or lateral locations given on a TDS?
A check is to be made to ensure that floor loading limits, bending moment, etc are not to be exheeded.
Deviation criteria - What should be checked when an item of load is positioned further aft than the extreme location given on a Hercules TDS?
The closure/opening of the ramp, in particular the upper rear door, must be checked.
Deviation criteria - When may crew/passenger access and evacuation route requirements be ammended.
Only when an operational dispensation is authorised
Deviation criteria - A deviation from a published TDS has been made that meets the principles of restraint - who should be informed?
The captain of the aircraft is to be informed for each deviation & why its considered necessary - In reality you should tell the loadmaster.
What is the purpose of TDS handout copies- Flimsies.
These are copies for field use on a "use once throw away" basis.
Who prepares Flimsies?
Air Publications Form Stores - APFS
Define the term Ramp Schemes.
If a TDS developed for the carriage of a load on the ramp which is unsuitable for use on the main floor, it will be annotated "RAMP SCHEME ONLY" under the title - and will be restricted accordingly.
Explain why a copy of the TDS must accompany an item of load.
Copies must be provided for use with the unloading of the item
