Question 1
Which 3 pairs of muscles control movement of the eye? What do they do individually?
1) Superior rectus and inferior rectus move the eye up and down (specifically --> superior rectus moves eye back and up, inferior rectus moves eye forward and down)

2) Lateral rectus and medial rectus move the eye sideways (specifically --> lateral rectus moves eye to the side, and medial rectus moves eye back towards nose)

3) Superior oblique and inferior oblique move the eye clockwise and counterclockwise, off the cardinal axes
Which 2 muscles control the size of the pupil to adjust to different light intensities?
Answer 2
1) Iris sphincter (circular)

2) Iris dilator (radial)
What are the 3 specializations of the fovea?
1) No blood vessels
2) No upper retinal layers
3) Densely packed photoreceptors (cones)! Rods are at 20 degrees right of fovea -- remember 1942 experiment!
What is the optic disk also known as?
A.k.a. = blind spot
Rods amplify light by how much? Cones amplify light by how much?
1) Rods = ~10^1 to 10^5

2) Cones = ~10^5 to 10^11
