Top Biology Study Guide Flashcards

Biology is the study of life, from tiny viruses and bacteria all the way up to entire ecosystems. Biologists are the people who work tirelessly to understand how all these living things work, and how they relate to one another. Biology is a difficult topic to study because life, by its nature, is extremely complex. Even a single cell is a hugely complicated machine, consisting of countless molecules floating around and interacting with one another in an intricate chemical dance. Add these cells up, and you have a tissue; add up the tissues, you have an organ; add up the organs, you have an organism; add up the organisms, you have a population; add up the populations, you have an ecosystem; add up the ecosystems, you have a planet. Biologists have to understand the living world at all of these different levels, and that requires a lot of study!

As you memorize key terms in biology, try not to lose sight of the big picture: everything in biology is directly related to you, since you are a living thing! If you can relate the concepts to your own body, they will be easier to remember.
