Top Osmosis Flashcards

Cell membranes, like skin, are designed to keep some things in and others out. Osmosis is what happens when things pass through that membrane. There are different causes for osmosis. Some things move across membranes because the pressure is different on either side. Sometimes, the concentration is different and the substance is naturally seeking a balance. In other situations, such as transferring nutrients, there is something on the other side of the membrane that serves as an attractor.

Did you know that osmosis usually occurs in liquids, but can also be found in gas? Did you know that osmosis was first recognized in 1748 by Jean-Antoine Nollet? If you aren’t an expert on chemistry, then our flashcards can help you to sharpen your skills. Check them out today and start learning!
